WARMING COMFORT
IN COOL CONDITIONSTHE ART OF THERMOREGULATION

At just 174 grams, it’s the lightest rain jacket ever made by Galvin Green...and also the fastest. In fact, it’s been engineered to give golfers maximum speed, not just protection from the elements.

But what has speed got to do with a super lightweight garment designed to keep out the rain? The answer lies in the innovative SHAKEDRY™ technology that minimises friction during the swing so that golfers can maximise clubhead speed. The combination of full power and greater control throughout the swing, results in the prospect of better scoring in wet conditions.

It gets its name from the fact that the unrivalled GORE-TEX waterproof membrane is positioned on the outside of the garment for the first time, without being covered by a conventional face fabric. As a result, the water simply beads up and rolls off the surface as quickly as it arrives. This means that since the jacket prevents any water absorption, there is minimal chilling effect on the body and a faster dry-off time than any other garment of its kind on the market.

AVAILABLE TO
SERIOUS GOLFERS

Galvin Green is the first golfwear brand to introduce this streamlined, waterproof technology into its rainwear range with the ASHTON full zip jacket that forms part of the 2019 Part Two collection. But, such is the interest shown in the new garment, the jacket is being pre-launched in April to provide serious golfers with the opportunity to acquire it for a greater part of the season.

Ergonomically designed for optimum comfort throughout the golf swing, the ASHTON is also extremely breathable and takes up very little space in the bag. The streamlined jacket has a functional backer textile inside offering exceptional comfort next to the skin.

During play testing of the ASHTON, Galvin Green was keen to establish how accomplished players would feel when they put on the new waterproof jacket, given that many are reluctant to do so for fear of losing club head speed. Former European Tour player Oliver Whiteley was among the first to give his reaction to wearing the ASHTON jacket out on the golf course in wet weather conditions.

“I don’t believe anyone could feel restricted in that jacket,” he said. “That’s lighter than anything I’ve ever played golf in or swung in before. It’s just like playing in a shirt!

“I think the ultimate thing in golf apparel – and certainly in waterproof clothing – would be to design a jacket that feels like you’re not wearing one. That would be a massive achievement...and I think that’s what you’ve achieved with this jacket,” he added.

EDITOR’S CHOICE

The ASHTON jacket is already an award-winner, even before it goes on sale. It was selected as a standout 2019 apparel innovation in Golf Monthly magazine’s Editor’s Choice. In explaining his selection, editor Michael Har- ris commented:

“The whole ethos behind the Editor’s Choice awards is to recognise innovative ideas that produce products that really benefit the golfer and the new Shakedry jacket absolutely does that, so it was one of our first selections for 2019.

Galvin Green has always been focused on producing garments that allow golfers to play to their potential whatever the weather and the lightweight, ultra-fast drying construction of Shakedry sets a new standard for outwear.”

GUIDO MIGLIOZZI IS THE BRAND'S LATEST TOUR CHAMPION
AS WELL AS THE 'FACE' OF THE FASHIONABLE EDGE RANGE.

After qualifying for his card at the demanding Q School finals in Spain last November, it took the 22-year-old Italian just 14 events in his Rookie season on the European Tour to win his first title. He kept cool under intense pressure during the final round in the African sun to finish one shot ahead of the chasing pack at the Magical Kenya Open in Nairobi and secure his maiden victory.

SINCE TURNING PROFESSIONAL three years ago with a plus 4 handicap, Guido has won three tournaments on the satellite Alpine Tour. This followed an impressive amateur record that included winning the Portuguese national title and representing his country in top team events like The Eisenhower Trophy.

He hails from the beautiful town of Vicenza, located between the spectacular architecture of Venice and the fashion powerhouse of Milan. Given his background, perhaps it’s understandable that he has an instinctive feel for quality styling and appreciates the steps taken by Galvin Green to attract more younger golfers with a radical range that challenges existing conventions in technical golf clothing.

Guido also has the distinction of being the first player signed by mega pop star Niall Horan’s management agency Modest! Golf back in 2016. After careful scrutiny of candidates across Europe, he was picked out as a potential star of the future who would best reflect the agency’s client ethos – super talented and with a first-class work ethic. “He’s an amazing character with a great talent,” said Horan, who encourages Guido to contact him and ask for advice whenever needed as part of an exclusive WhatsApp group.

AS ONE OF SEVEN young men relatively new to the professional game managed by a Modest! operation aiming to change golf for the better, he is competing on the European Tour alongside two other Galvin Green players – Christiaan Bezuidenhout from South Africa and Spain’s Ivan Cantero.

Last summer, he became the first golfer to appear on behalf of Galvin Green in the fashionable men’s lifestyle magazine GQ, where he modelled two ground-breaking EDGE garments in prominent full-page display advertisements. “Having Guido be the public ‘face’ of EDGE and model the E-Golf Base bomber jacket and E-Insula Wave pullover in GQ was the perfect way to introduce the line and make a big statement about the brand,” said Global Brand Manager Nicholai Stein.

How distinctive and special do you feel on Tour in your EDGE gear?

I am so proud to wear Galvin Green Edge and represent the brand. It’s industry-leading and I love working with the company. To wear the Edge range, which has a high level of performance alongside looking great, is the perfect combination.

Have you received many comments from other pros about the garments and if so, can you tell us about them?

I get loads of comments from the general public and people I play with. Galvin Green is so much more now than a company who make great waterproof gear. It’s a company that is bringing fashion trends into the golf market. It’s incredible what they are doing.

What impresses you most about your Galvin wardrobe for the season?

The performance. It’s one thing having clothing that looks great. However, it needs to perform and help me perform better – which it does. The products are so breathable and light to play in.

Can you tell us which is your favourite outfit and why?

Any of the camouflage products. The range is so good even away from the golf course now. I feel I could wear it to the cinema or out for a meal. Gone are the days of boring golf attire and I thank Galvin Green for making me look good both on and off the course.

Have you decided on an outfit to wear regularly during your final rounds?

That’s a tough one! I love to be creative with my outfits so I tend to take more than I need when travelling to allow me flexibility. The weather and my mood will always help determine what I wear.

Textile engineer Sofia Ask Klason has been with Galvin Green for more than 2 years and as Product Manager she is responsible for all of the collections. She uses her deep knowledge of manufacturing methods, fabric technology and textile chemistry to provide golfers around the world with the best garments there is. So, who could be better suited to answer questions about how to stay warm on the golf course? We asked Sofia to give her best advice about layering up for golf during cold weather.

Getting dressed for a day on the golf course, what should I think about? It depends on the weather, but if you live in northern Europe there’s al- ways a risk that the weather is both chilly and wet. At Galvin Green we have a multi-layer concept and the first thing to consider is the base lay- er. If you know it’s going to be cold, you want to keep your body both dry and warm. Our Skintight™ Thermal is perfect for that. It has maximum breathability and enables the release of excess heat and moisture.

Does the SKINTIGHT™ also help to keep me warm? Yes, the material has thermal insulation technology for optimum warmth. But if you’re playing on a nice spring day and you know the weather is getting warmer by the hour, you had better choose a Ventil8™ shirt that keeps you fresh all day.

Now I’ve got my base layer, what’s next? Go for one of our INSULA™ sweaters, which is a very versatile garment. It has built-in air chambers that are warmed by the body heat and provide extremely effective and long-lasting thermal insulation. At the same time, it has maximum breathability that enables the release of excess heat and moisture. When there’s no wind, an INSULA™ sweater may be all you need for a day on the golf course. This season, Galvin Green has also added styles with a padded front and back for some extra warmth in cooler weather. Our INSULA™ sweaters are very soft and comfortable to wear thanks to the napped fabric. The elastane also makes it stretchy, which adds to the comfort.

With my SKINTIGHT™ Thermal and an INSULA™ sweater I’m warm. But will they help me against the wind? No, now you need to add an INTERFACE-1™ jacket which is totally wind- proof, extremely breathable and water repellent. When you put an IN- TERFACE-1™ jacket over an INSULA™ sweater and a Skintight™ Thermal you get the benefits of all materials. You feel warm and protected from the cold wind, yet you never feel sticky because of the fabric’s ability to transport moisture. The stretch also makes them the perfect golf gear. You can move freely as the fabric moves with you and enables you to play your best golf.

Perfect, but what about the rain? If it’s just a drizzle, you will be fine with what you are wearing now. But, if the weather forecast predicts rain, I would advise you to put on something guaranteed to keep you dry from our GORE-TEX range instead. A jacket in GORE-TEX fabric with C-knit™ backer has a super smooth texture that ‘slides & glides’ over the garments underneath. It completes the other layers by also being lightweight and having excellent breathability. Nothing can stop you now!

KEEP WIND CHILL
AT BAY

In windy conditions, the body cools down considerably faster than it would in the same temperature with no wind. This phenomenon is called the wind chill effect. For a golfer, it is crucial to maintain an even and comfortable body temperature during a longer period of activity. Garments offering total windproofness protects the body from the chilling effects of wind, but to get a long-lasting comfort the golfer needs a technology that provides a combination of windproofness and optimized breathability. The versatily provided by Galvin Green windproof technologies stops the body from feeling the chilling effects of wind and weather during activity, while protecting the sensitive micro-climate next to the skin.
