Alexander Björk, born in the Galvin Green home town of Växjö, carded a final round 65 to win his first European Tour title at the Volvo China Open yesterday and move into the top 10 on the Race to Dubai.
The talented Swede began the day a shot off the lead and was part of a six-way tie at one point, but powered into the lead with four birdies on the back nine, including two over the last four holes at the Topwin Golf & Country Club in Beijing.
His stylish performance in the final round came after ties for second at the UBS Hong Kong Open and third in last week’s Trophèe Hassan II event in Morocco. It also came just over three weeks after he travelled for several hours down to the PGA of Sweden National course in Malmö to practice, when his local Sand Golf Club in Jönköping was under deep snow.
In contrasting temperatures reaching 29ºC in China, he kept cool in a VENTIL8™ PLUS shirt (MAYER in Black, Kings Blue, White & Iron grey) and matching NOAH pants in Kings Blue.
“I felt confident almost all the way,” said the 27-year-old. “I’ve been striking the ball so well off the tee and also into the greens all week. It (the final round) was the best round of my life. It’s easy to play a round when the swing is there. I’m super happy!”
This was the second maiden European Tour title of the season for a Team Galvin Green player, following the victory of England’s Chris Paisley at the BMW South Africa Open Championship in January.
