NEW COMPANY STRUCTURE FOR
GALVIN GREEN IN THE UK

16 December 2008

Galvin Green is taking full ownership of its UK and Ireland operation after agreeing terms with The Golf Business Ltd, its licensee in this country for the past seven years.

From 1 March 2009 all brand sales and marketing in the UK and Ireland will be managed by the newly-formed Galvin Green UK Ltd. The new company will retain the existing network of sales agents reporting to Managing Director Mike Johnson-Hill, along with the customer service centre in Chertsey.

“We have been planning this move for some time and it reflects the level of success Galvin Green has enjoyed in our biggest market in recent years,” said Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green. “Pre-orders for the 2009 range are once again up on the previous year and our British and Irish customers can expect even greater investment in the business under the new company structure,” he added.

Galvin Green, with its emphasis on GORE-TEX® waterproofs and new fabric technology in other clothing lines, has seen its UK business grow rapidly in the past five years.

“We expect that the new structure will provide our customers with even better service and help the brand grow still further, even in difficult trading circumstances,” said Mike Johnson-Hill.

Galvin Green – Supplier of the year

28 Oktober 2008

Sportfack and GolfStoreGalvin Green reinforces its position as the leading supplier of golf clothing: two independent surveys of the sector rank the company as the best supplier of 2008.

“We are delighted that our work with quality has been recognised. Especially as the recognition comes from the sector players – the resellers – themselves,” says Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green. “We are working consciously and from a long-term perspective on these issues, and naturally view our top rank as proof that we are moving in the right direction.”

In the survey from the Sportfack journal, Galvin Green has taken the title of “Supplier of the Year” for the second year in succession. This time, the company was the clear overall winner and topped the list in four of the seven categories. The survey involved golf and sports stores in Sweden awarding marks to suppliers for their work over the past year.

Galvin Green was also lauded in the Golfstore’s Supplier Award 2008 survey, with member stores voting the company “Best software supplier” for Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria.

TEAM GALVIN GREEN SWEDES IN DOUBLE TRIUMPH

18 August 2008

Two members of Team Galvin Green won landmark victories at European Tour events staged in contrasting weather conditions over the weekend – helped by the full range of Galvin Green golf performance clothing.

Peter Hanson became the first home player to win the SAS Masters for 10 years when he fired a closing 71 to hold off the field at a cold, wet and windy Arlandastad Golf course in Stockholm. The tall 30-year-old from Svedala who last won on Tour in Spain three years ago, held off the challenge of compatriot Pelle Edberg and England’s Nick Dougherty to finish his national tournament one shot ahead on nine-under par. Persistent showers and swirling winds made it difficult for Hanson, who often changed into his Galvin Green waterproofs during the course of the final round. In capturing the second European Tour title of his career, Hanson won €266.660 and moved up to 17th in the European Ryder Cup standings to give himself an outside chance of making the team next month.

At the same time in much warmer temperatures in Switzerland, Klas Eriksson shot a stunning final round of 63 – the lowest of his career – to reach a play-off and then win his second European Challenge Tour title at the Trophée du Golf Club de Genève. Eriksson, who represents the local club in Galvin Green’s home town of Växjö, had fired eleven birdies to finish 14-under par and reach a play-off against overnight leader Dutchman Wil Besseling and Brazilian Alexandre Rocha. He then sunk a 20 foot putt on the fourth extra hole to win his first Challenge Tour title in seven years. His prize money of €24.400 takes him up to fifth in the Challenge Tour rankings.

Other Team Galvin Green members include Colin Montgomerie, Graeme Storm, Lee Slattery, Joakim Haeggman and Welshman Jamie Donaldson who finished tied eighth in Stockholm.

GALVINISED – BY NEW TECHNOLOGIES!

Summer 2008

Two more fabric technologies have been added to the Galvin Green range this season – both designed to galvanise the performance of golfers whatever the playing conditions.

New SKINTIGHT™ Compression garments have been created expressly for golfers to provide a breathable inner layer that delivers more energy when extra performance is required. Compression technology increases the blood flow and oxygen level in the muscles, providing better circulation and greater stamina. The new garments come in long sleeved tops (Enzo) and leggings (Emerson) in black, white and ultra marine.

New Coolmax® freshFX™, the second innovative fabric, uses silver particles to keep unwanted odours at bay and provide a comfortable shirt in the hottest conditions. Special Odour Shield fibres fight the bacteria which feed on human sweat, allowing the shirt to stay fresh and clean all day long. The first shirt in the range is the Jasper. “As the first golf brand to introduce underwear to our range, we know how well the SKINTIGHT™ Compression garments will be received and freshFX™ is a great enhancement of the already successful Coolmax® shirt range,” said Christian Nilsson, Galvin Green’s Managing Director.

READER’S CHOICE

Summer 2008

Once again, Galvin Green waterproofs have been harvesting awards from some of Europe’s top golf magazines, winning praise from readers and writers alike. In the UK, top-selling Today’s Golfer readers voted Galvin Green the best waterproofs manufacturer from 10 short-listed brands, while Golf Punk’s younger fashion-conscious readers also bestowed the honour of ‘best waterproof brand’. Elsewhere, National Club Golfer ranked the Argus as the best jacket in its recent waterproofs test, while writers at Golf Monthly were similarly enthused, awarding the Argus a top spot in a recent rainwear review. Galvin Green also featured on the cover and inside 15,000 copies of a ‘What to Wear 08’ guide Today’s Golfer produced for distribution in American Golf stores across the UK.

SKY’S THE LIMIT

Summer 2008

Sky Sports’ TV cameras descended on Galvin Green’s UK headquarters in April to find out more about trends in golf fashion. Golf Night programme presenter Di Stewart asked Mike Johnson-Hill, Managing Director in the UK & Ireland, about advances in clothing technology and how styles have changed over the past 20 years. Mike presented the brand’s new fabrics and latest collection, while Di, a sixhandicap golfer, declared herself a big fan of Galvin Green clothing.

SERIOUS LOOKALIKES

Summer 2008

Reports suggest that the current Get Serious… Get Galvin advertising campaign is making a big impression on golfers, especially those who follow football. Many have spotted the likeness between the bearded model wearing a fullyprotective waterproof in pouring rain and Barcelona’s Icelandic international footballer Eidur Gudjohnsen (left). Although Eidur was known to be a regular golfer during his Chelsea days, he wasn’t called upon to pose on this occasion. The model is Swedish player David Rosvall.

TOP OF THE WORLD

Summer 2008

The intrepid daughter of a Scottish stockist has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro wearing a Galvin Green jacket all the way to the summit. Michelle Feenie, 28, whose father Mike Grubb runs Nevada Bob’s in Edinburgh and Dundee, scaled the 5,894 metre (19,340 ft) peak through some of the most hostile conditions on the planet, yet her black Alanis jacket kept her warm and completely dry. “My jacket was admired by all my fellow climbers and it kept me bone dry throughout drizzle, torrential rain, sleet and snow,” said Michelle. The climb was in aid of Scotland’s animal welfare charity, for whom Michelle works, and raised an impressive €70,000. Mike has tried to teach his daughter golf many times without success. “But I enjoy going along to the driving range and giving it my best shot!” she added..

TREND SETTER

Summer 2008

While golfers are sizing up the exciting 2008 range, Mats Lundqvist is already looking at samples of his designs destined to be launched in Spring 2009. As the senior designer, Mats (right) leads a team of four responsible for setting new trends in golf clothing every year. “It’s our job to find something new in terms of look or fabric technology or both,” said Mats, a six-handicap golfer who puts his theories to the test on the golf course whenever he can. A founder member of the company, he is credited with introducing a succession of trend-setting garments that have given Galvin Green a distinctive style and a reputation for innovation. “We get a lot of ideas on function, look and colour from our visits to fashion and fabric shows, plus occasional trips to golf stores,” said Mats. “Feedback on prototypes from our Tour pros and sales teams is also taken on board before we go into production.” Apart from overseeing a growing range each year, Mats also gets an increasing number of queries from golfers, mainly asking about what the fabrics can and can’t do. “My emails from consumers have gone up by more than 100% in the past two years – there’s a lot of interest in golf clothing out there,“ he added.line

STORMING START

Summer 2008

The performance-enhancing design and temperatureregulating properties of Galvin Green’s clothing helped Graeme Storm become the highest-placed European finisher at the WGC-CA Championship in March. The weather varied during the tournament from warm and sunny skies one day to torrential downpours the next, conditions that allowed Graeme’s clothing to come into its element. Greame’s shirts, featuring the innovative Coolmax® fabric, kept the 30-year-old cool and fresh in the high temperatures, while his GORE-TEX® Performance Shell waterproofs provided lightweight, breathable comfort and left him perfectly dry despite the rain. The clothing helped Graeme (right) card a stunning nine-under-par 63 in his third round and finish on 13-under overall. His reward was a cheque for €127,103 which took him a step closer to Ryder Cup qualification.

YOUNG ‘GALVIN’ EXCELS

Summer 2008

UK national newspapers reported on the impact made by a young golfing prodigy at this year’s Malaysian Open named Galvin Green. Several publications including The Daily Telegraph, as well as Reuters and the European Tour’s own website, described the feats of an eight-year-old Malaysian boy who impressed playing partner and Tour rookie Rory McIlroy in the tournament’s Pro-am. McIlroy said of master Green: “He’s awesome. In fact he made me look pretty average.” However, the reports had one important fact wrong – his name is Galven Green. Young Galven plays off a handicap of nine and won the under-six Junior World Golf Championship by 13-shots, finishing on 3-under-par,two years ago. Soon he could be big enough to try the Galvin Green junior range!

LOOK OUT FOR LEE

Summer 2008

Lee Slattery has been snapped up to wear Galvin Green apparel this season – and in his very first outing dressed in the stylish new attire he achieved his highest ever professional Tour finish. The Englishman, 29, finished joint second alongside Ernie Els in the opening event of the 2008 European Tour season, the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek GC in South Africa. He ended up on 12-under-par and took home his biggest ever cheque of €92,100. “The performance and look of Galvin Green clothing is fantastic in both outerwear and layering garments,” said Lee (right). “I’m very conscious of how I look and feel on the course and the Galvin Green garments give me the confidence to stride out regardless of the conditions.”.

FRONT PAGES

Summer 2008

Women & Golf magazine was so impressed with Galvin Green’s product photography and clothing range it recently featured three products on its front cover. The publication is distributed to golf clubs across the UK and read by over 20,000 female players, all of whom will have seen the Alanis jacket, Abel cap and Anna trousers on the front cover of this year’s first issue. The use of these images, along with a corresponding article inside the magazine, was especially pleasing since the brand has made the women’s market a higher priority this year..

COMMITMENT TO GORE-TEX® FABRIC

Summer 2008

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Galvin Green working with WL Gore & Associates and its unrivalled GORE-TEX® and WINDSTOPPER® fabrics. Galvin Green is the only golf clothing manufacturer to use GORE-TEX® and WINDSTOPPER® fabrics throughout its entire waterproof and windproof collections. “While others offer GORE-TEX® fabric as a top-of-the-range option, we believe golfers deserve the very best performance benefits whatever item of wet weather clothing they buy,” commented Christian Nilsson. “Galvin Green has single-handedly changed the golf waterproof clothing market over the past 15 years and proved that golfers will pay a premium price if the quality of product, in terms of performance and style, is consistently on offer,” said John Overdijking at Gore. The GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell fabric is again at the heart of this year’s range. The brand has been using GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell technology for four years and it remains the best lightweight and breathable material for waterproofs on the market.line

MORE THAN JUST WATERPROOFS

Summer 2008

Despite having built its reputation on premium waterproofs, more than 40% of the latest Galvin Green collection features nonwaterproof golf clothing. The addition of WINDSTOPPER® and INSULA™ jackets, merino wool/acrylic pullovers, Coolmax® shirts, cotton/polyester trousers and SKINTIGHT™ base layers has taken the range to another level. Christian Nilsson, Managing Director of Galvin Green, said: “Galvin Green might be associated with waterproofs because of the brand’s origins, but the market tells us that golfers who buy top quality waterproofs also have a keen eye for fashion both on and off the course.”

GALVIN ROCKS

Summer 2008

Members of the legendary rock band Dire Straits – famous for the classic hit Sultans of Swing – are among brand’s biggest fans. Keyboard player and keen golfer Guy Fletcher loved the clothing so much he asked the company to supply the entire new group – now known as the Mark Knopfler band – with top quality shirts and waterproofs. So don’t be surprised if you see ace guitarist Knopfler sporting an Austin jacket during his interviews or members of the band wearing Coolmax® shirts to keep them cool on stage under the spotlights!

lineCOOL DUDES AT THE US PGA

Winter 2007/2008

The US PGA Championship at Southern Hills may have been the hottest Major ever, with temperatures soaring to 102°, but the performances of England’s Graeme
Storm and Simon Dyson proved the value of wearing the most breathable clothing on Tour.

Cool dudesSTORM’S FORMWAS sizzling – shooting an opening 65 for the tournament lead. Playing through the hottest part of the day, he kept his cool wearing a Coolmax Jax shirt (Ice Blue & white) with a pair of white Noel trousers. Sky Sports’ summariser and former Masters and Open champion Sandy Lyle quipped on air: “I’m not sure which shirt he (Storm) is wearing, but he looks to be the only one not sweating out there.”
Simon Dyson – wearing an ice blue Joe Coolmax shirt and matching blue Noel trousers – went on to shoot a superb lowest of the week front nine score of 31 to show how well he could perform in the hot and humid conditions.
Dyson’s achievement led to a request from Golf World to feature details of his stylish wardrobe in its November issue. Plus a call up from Nick Faldo to his Seve Trophy Great Britain & Ireland team to join Storm in defeating Continental Europe in September.

“I’m not sure which shirt he is wearing, but he looks to be the only one not sweating out there.”

lineTHE LENGTHS WE GO TO...

Winter 2007/2008

Galvin Green launches three new Windstoppers. Not a big deal to many yet most golfers will never know or appreciate the development work behind these new garmets.

FunctionA TEST SESSIONfor these three products alone by Gore saw scientists at the University of Aberdeen, in Scotland drafted in along with a group of energetic cyclists. Ensuring a particularly sweaty and strenuous test, the Windstopper products were pitied against other windproof and non-windproof but breathable fabrics to ensure a fair reliable test and analysis.
Test cyclists rode under normal conditions, as well as difficult hill stretches, whilst their performances were measured. Heart rate monitors, breathability tests, even the zips came under scrutiny! Thorough quizzing throughout gave further insight into how the cyclists thought the garment’s performed. Meaning every last detail was analyzed to ensure unbeatable quality.
The result? New Windstopper fabrics which out-perform the competition, by reducing heart beats, lowering exhaustion levels and keeping the wearer fresher. If that doesn’t convince customers, Galvin Green are serious about producing game enhancing golf wear, nothing will.

lineNEW SEASON... NEW COLOURS

Winter 2007/2008

WHEN IT COMES to clothing, colour is often the decisive factor in convincing customers to make a purchase. Once again Galvin Green’s new seasons colours are bold, distinctive and funky. From Intense blue to Merlot, Copper and Cement, all are guaranteed to catch the customer’s eye in the Pro shop, and encourage even more sales.

lineNOT JUST ANY WINDSTOPPERS

Winter 2007/2008

BensonEVERY GOLFER KNOWS that a Windstopper is 100% windproof and provides protection from the dreaded wind chill factor. But can one Windstopper differ so much from another?
The answer is emphatically ‘Yes’. Galvin Green has introduced two new Gore-inspired Windstoppers that make maximum use of innovative light-weight new fabrics, the Byron and Beck.
Windstoppers now date back 16 years and keep the wearer 2.5 times warmer than airpermeable materials. They breathe better than most waterproof jackets and research shows that this benefit can even reduce the heart rate by up to eight beats a minute to help deliver a smooth swing. Europe’s biggest-selling golf magazine Today’s Golfer, is well known for its influential equipment reviews. So it was a great boost when it gave the short-sleeved Benson a big thumbs up, naming the jacket as its favourite Galvin Green Windstopper. TG described the jacket as: “lightweight, breathable, windproof and like a second skin...if you’re the type of player who hates wearing a waterproof to keep warm, these are a brilliant alternative!” Well said.

lineTHE FUTURE’S BRIGHT, ITS 2008...

Winter 2007/2008

CorbinEXCITING, ENERGETIC, LOUD, modern. All words used to describe Galvin Green’s 2008 range at the recent largest Golf Trade Show in Europe, at unich. The product range rightly made a big impression on thousands of visitors.
From the funky chocolate coloured checked Newton trousers, to the bright green and white patterned Corbin sweater, everything went down a storm. Turning the heads of retailers, buyers, golf pros and golfers alike. If early response is anything to go by, 2008 should be another outstanding year with plenty of new designs and colours to inspire customers new and old. Just make sure customers avoid looking like Bertie Basset, by not wearing all the colours together!
